Billy Blythe: Opera Comes to Ithaca

The climactic incident was followed by a compelling final scene, harmoniously melding several scores from the play and riddled with ostinatos. The elegant music and disjointed characters all jam-packed on the Kitchen’s small stage epitomized Montgomery’s skill as a composer, yet highlighted the narrative incohesion....

    Protest Cabaret: Ithaca's Resistance

Ithaca’s formidable history of activist theater counters Trumpism with its own brand of resistance – protest cabaret. Not My President, happening February 20th all over the country, is an international event hosted by the activist collective Bad and Nasty. Ithaca’s cabaret rendition will play...

    Ithaca Talent Shines in Deathtrap

While these critiques may reflect some of the inherent risks of working with a script written in another political epoch, I would be remiss to leave them unstated as these temporal contradictions become normalized in the ways in which modern audiences view theater...

The Secret in the Wings: A Preview

Mirroring Lookingglass’ original creation process, Murphy blew up the traditional rehearsal framework. He introduced a number of ensemble building exercises before they even got to the text, just to build trust and chemistry between the actors as they explored the script....

Sex With Strangers at the Kitchen Theater

The spectacle of opposites plays throughout, most fun for the audience through Dauchan’s tight shirts and forward pelvis versus Hutchison’s arched shoulders and modest sweaters.
